Amna Suraka (Red Museum) – Memory of Pain and Hope

What Is It?

Once a feared intelligence prison, the Amna Suraka in Sulaymaniyah has been transformed into a museum of remembrance, honoring the victims of Iraq’s past regimes and celebrating the strength of the Kurdish people.

Why Visit?

  • Walk through the haunting “Hall of Mirrors,” where 182,000 lights symbolize each life lost.

  • See the preserved prison cells and powerful photo exhibits.

  • Learn how Kurdistan turned a site of suffering into one of education and peace.

A Museum with a Story

Amna Suraka means “Red Security.” It was liberated during the Kurdish uprising in 1991 and now stands as one of Iraq’s most emotionally powerful heritage sites.
