Imam Kadhim Shrine – Al-Kadhimayn Mosque

What Is It?

The Imam Kadhim Shrine, also known as Al-Kadhimayn Mosque, is one of the holiest sites in Baghdad. It is the burial place of Imam Musa al-Kadhim (the 7th Shia Imam) and his grandson Imam Muhammad al-Jawad (the 9th Shia Imam). The shrine, with its dazzling golden domes and tall minarets, draws millions of pilgrims every year.

Why You’ll Love It

  • Admire the shrine’s majestic golden domes and blue-tiled minarets, glowing over the Kadhimayn district.

  • Experience the atmosphere of devotion, as pilgrims gather day and night.

  • Explore the surrounding markets and bazaars, filled with traditional shops and food.

  • See one of Baghdad’s most important religious and cultural landmarks.

A Monument That Speaks to the Heart

The shrine stands as a symbol of Baghdad’s spiritual soul. Despite the city’s challenges over the centuries, Al-Kadhimayn remains a place of peace, prayer, and unity—an essential stop for both pilgrims and visitors who want to understand Iraq’s living traditions.
