Al-Askari Shrine – Samarra

 

What Is It?

The Al-Askari Shrine in Samarra is the burial place of the 10th Imam Ali al-Hadi and the 11th Imam Hasan al-Askari, making it one of the most important sites for Shia Muslims. It is also associated with the 12th Imam (al-Mahdi), who is believed to have gone into occultation here.
